This portrait is of Eldress Sarah Collins (1855-1947). She was appointed Eldress of the South Family at 20, and was involved in the shaker chair-making industry for more than 60 years.

This portrait of Eldress Sarah Ann Collins (1855-1947) is printed on a postcard, which is labeled "Shaker Sister New Lebanon N.Y." She had been brought to the Shakers at the age of seven, after being orphaned. She would go on to head the South Family as an eldress for over sixty years. She directed the Shaker chair industry at Mt. Lebanon and seated chair frames.
